introduction

The disabled people’s movement has been central to the way we now view the concept of disability. This movement began in the late 1960s in north America and Europe and has since spread throughout the world. The well-known slogan “Nothing about us without us” symbolizes the degree of influence the movement has had.

Disabled people’s organizations are focused on achieving full participation and equalization of opportunities for, by and with persons with disabilities. They played a key role in developing the CRPD.
