Health promotion addresses those determinants of health that can potentially be modified. These include:

  • individual health behaviours and lifestyles;
  • income and social status;
  • education, employment and working conditions;
  • access to appropriate health services;
  • stigma and prejudice;
  • the physical environment.

Health promotion does not require expensive drugs or elaborate technology; instead it uses social interventions such as health promotion campaigns.
